The Egyptian government has recently declared wildlife sanctuaries certain portions of this region, and eco-tourism is playing an increasing role in the future of the area. These environmentally conscious developments may help maintain the cultural authenticity and ecological balance of the southern tip of the Red Sea, and help spare it from the ecological damage that has plagued the northern half of the coast during the nineties with huge resort projects. The Bedouin artisans we work with dwell in secluded spots off the coast, where they help safeguard natural wildlife habitats. |
